(and yet another reason to exercise and not gain weight)
In a 5 year study of over 2000 women published this year, researchers found that women were more likely to lose more than a half an inch of height if:
- they failed to exercise,
- if they gained weight, and
- if they used oral corticosteroids (medications like prednisone).
The more we exercise, the higher the peak bone density we can achieve.
The more belly fat we accumulate, the lower our bone density and the more we shrink. Multiple other risk factors were studied and did not correlate with height loss.
